WordPress has become indispensable in online marketing. But what does it mean and how does it work at all? Briefly explained: WordPress is a simple and very popular web application/publishing tool that allows you to create your own website or blog. It was developed by Automattic (founder: Matthew Mullenweg).

WordPress is based on the PHP scripting language. All data will be in a Database (MySQL) stored on the web server. For this to work, the web hosting provider must support PHP and MySQL.
WordPress divides into a Frontend and a backend. As frontend the Actual website that is, what the page visitor sees. In the Backend the webmaster can post content, create pages and posts and upload images.
WordPress is as an open-souce solution first of all completely free of charge. The owner is the non-profit WordPress Foundation. The German version can be downloaded from the Download WordPress.org Website. Here it often comes to misunderstandings, because there is also a chargeable offer about WordPress.com. But then not WordPress itself is subject to a charge, but only the technical provision. WordPress as Software itself is therefore free of charge.
There are many reasons for WordPress speak. The free open source software is probably the biggest incentive here. There are also many Open source plugins and themesthat are helpful in the design of the website. Plugins (tools) change the way the website works, themes change the look of the page.
